One of Hull’s leading sports and leisure venues Active+, formerly Hull Indoor Sports Centre, is becoming a music venue for the growing number of local bands and solo singers.
The centre has already hosted a number of music nights in The Woolsheds, a dedicated bar with a music stage that also serves food. The Woolsheds is just part of the longer-term development of the Active + site that began when the new owners took over in 2018.
Development has included upgrading the sports and leisure facilities, refurbishing the main bar into The Woolsheds music venue. It’s an ongoing programme but it has made Active+, just off National Avenue in Hull, one of East Yorkshire’s best sport and leisure facilities.
Much of this work has been carried out under the guidance of the new owner, Darren Trice. He has been behind the establishment of Active + as a music venue.
“For a number of years, I have supported bands on the Hull music scene mainly in pubs and clubs,” said Darren. “There are very few dedicated spaces where bands can perform. Of course, there are a number of venues where bands and solo artists play, but nothing like The Woolsheds. I wanted to create a place that was great for the bands and for people who want to listen to them and enjoy the whole experience. We have developed a great space that will quickly become established on the Hull music scene.”
So, what is different about The Woolsheds? Firstly, its located in a centre where there is something for all ages and tastes, a real community facility. Live music will be available at all times of the day, not just evenings.
A play area whilst parents listen to the music. The centre is comfortable and clean inside and outside, with a safe car park where you can leave your car overnight and walk or get a taxi home. It’s easy walking distance from Chanterlands and Princes Avenues areas. It also offers cheap beer and food.
There won’t be an admission charge for most of the music nights, helping keep the costs for a night out right down. The following have already been booked for the Summer and Autumn season at The Woolsheds. Other acts will be added so there is something for everybody.
