Alec

Dr. Alec Gill MBE

I was born in Hull’s Old Town with no school qualifications so I became a messenger boy in freight forwarding. I got bored with office work, hitch-hiked around Europe and the Middle East during the 1960/70s. I became a Psychology student at Hull University in 1974. That same year I began my Hessle Road Photo study of the people in the fishing community. Then became a historian, author, film-maker and public speaker – all about Hull’s trawling heritage. I got invited to write articles for The Hull Hub. They are a dynamic team who produce a joyous publication that benefits everyone in the area.
