Students who attend East Yorkshire schools and youth groups have an exciting opportunity to showcase their creativity through dance thanks to an upcoming competition. Chance to Dance is a new performance challenge scheduled for Spring 2020, brought to the region by local businesses Drunk Animal Creative Studio and National Events Support. The aim of the competition is to celebrate student participation in performing arts whilst creating inspiring productions.
The event has been designed through consultation with schools in the region, in the absence of the recently dissolved and much-loved Rock Challenge. Children and young people will showcase their skills such as choreography, set building and costume design in a new two-day showcase, creating performances around their chosen theme. Performances will be judged by theatre and dance professionals from the region, and the top three schools of each division will be awarded prizes to improve performance arts access in their school community.
Jessica Thorp, Office Manager at Drunk Animal Creative Studio, says: ‘We wanted to give a platform where children of all ages could still showcase their talents and creativity. The experience will educate and reinforce positive messages to students in a friendly and competitive environment.’
The competition has been organised by the marketing studio in collaboration with National Events Support, following the need for a Rock Challenge replacement expressed by local school leaders and students. Chance to Dance will ensure talented students across the region have access to an alternative opportunity to showcase and develop their skills whilst gaining lifelong benefits such as teamwork, confidence and self-expression.
The competition requires additional support from local businesses who are passionate about providing this unique educational experience for young people, including those who are currently enrolled in youth programmes and unable to join the school-based competition. Donations of all sizes are welcome. Sponsorship will contribute towards the costs of putting on the show, including an allocation which will be divided equally amongst youth groups to cover their costs of production. The more raised, the more each group will receive to fulfil their production’s ambitions. Recommended minimum sponsorship is £1000, however, all donations large and small are appreciated. Sponsors will be featured on the website and across print.
