Hull City Council, alongside local partners, including the voluntary sector, NHS, Humberside Fire & Rescue and Humberside Police have been Highly Commended at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.
The annual LGC Awards celebrate the very best innovation and talent in local government and the Council was Highly Commended in the Partnership (Public Public) category for close partnership working in helping Hull overcome the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year’s ceremony took place at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday 4 November, where representatives from councils across the country were among the winners in 22 categories.
Hull City Council, the local voluntary sector and many other partners were recognised for their efforts in coming together to initiate a strong partnership response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to this approach, three community hubs were established, sharing and coordinating support and resources in order to support the most vulnerable in the city.
Matt Jukes, Chief Executive of Hull City Council said:
“I am delighted that the Council’s staff and our partners have been recognised for their incredible work in supporting our city through the pandemic.
It was understood early in the pandemic that it was essential for us all to come together and form a single voice in responding to COVID-19. Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly to offer help and support to the most vulnerable in our community. The relationships that were formed and strengthened at that time have also put us on a strong footing for the future.
This simply couldn’t have been done without every one of our partners working with us, so I would like to extend the Council’s gratitude to them because we all share this recognition.”
The event also saw all Directors of Public Health and their teams at local councils across the country honoured with the Editor’s Special Award in recognition of the vital role they have played and continue to play in protecting our communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
