New unit opens for patients well enough to ‘step down’ from hospital care

A new social care unit, the first of its kind in the country to help patients regain independence after stays in hospital, has been set up at Castle Hill Hospital The 14-bed facility, set up by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will help people who are well enough to ‘step down’ from the intensive support provided by Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust but can’t go home until out-of-hospital support is in place. The East Riding Social Care Suite aims to reduce pressure on both Hull Royal infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital by providing additional capacity for people who need a little more support.…

Salon’s sporting heroes double their money for the Daisy Appeal

A leading hair salon group donated more than £3,000 to the Daisy Appeal after staff completed their annual Olympics in memory of a much-loved former colleague. Teams from the Unique salons in Beverley, Cottingham and Hessle took to the fields of Blackburn Leisure Centre in Brough for the tenth edition of the sporting challenge and racked up the total raised at “Caroline’s Day” over the years to more than £40,000. By donating the money to the Daisy Appeal as part of The Big Give Christmas Challenge, management at Unique were able to double the value of their contribution to more than £6,000. Caroline Abuelo…
