For the sixth year running, Wilberforce Sixth Form College’s students and staff are celebrating the best exam results achieved since the College opened in 1988. Advanced level achievement stands at an outstanding 99% with over 692 students achieving the best grades possible (A*- B or equivalent).
Colin Peaks, new College Principal, knows exactly how important it is for the young people picking up their results at Wilberforce today, as he himself was once a student at the College. He comments:
‘A huge and heartfelt well done to all our students today! I know from my own experience how incredibly hard these young people have worked to achieve their brilliant results. It demonstrates their commitment and dedication towards their studies and they are now being rewarded with top university places, training courses and future careers.
We have heard much of the future challenges that face young people and those that support them. These results show that our students and staff have met those challenges head-on. They are a testament both to the mature academic prowess of our students and to their qualities of resilience and determination.
The story these results tell is of gifted young people with the sheer application to turn that ability into life changing qualifications. I’m proud by their achievement and also delighted for their parents who’ve supported them throughout.
It is also a fantastic result for our staff and highlights the tremendous support they give to our students which, together with the help we receive from local employers, prepares them for further success in Higher Education and the world of work.’
Since the appointment of Colin Peaks as College Principal, there has been significant investment to ensure that all students receive an outstanding education, delivered by outstanding staff in state-of-the art facilities (clearly visible if you pass the College!)
He adds, ‘Anyone thinking about the next step of their education really should consider Wilberforce College as their first choice.’
Our students agree …
‘Wilberforce treated me as an individual, they believed in me, trusted my opinion of my capabilities, but, pushed me when needed! My teachers have been so supportive, caring and helpful with my learning journey, and have felt more like friends.’
‘I feel really happy with my results. Wilberforce College was great in bringing universities and employers in to talk about next steps and what to do after College. This allowed me to confirm my decision to progress to Leeds University.
‘My confidence since studying at Wilberforce has improved both inside and outside of the classroom. I’ve had the opportunity to develop my teamwork and communication skills through a number of different enrichment activities and feel much more open and confident in sharing my ideas in front of people. I’m delighted with my A-Levels!’
Colin invites anyone considering their next steps to come and take a look for themselves at the upcoming open events.
